Advanced Instrumentation Department

Head of Department

Experimentation and simulation play a fundamental role in the centre’s research activities. In many cases, they are carried out in the laboratory or during field campaigns by studying natural processes, and in other cases in space, either by remote observation or by in situ analysis and measurements on the surface of planetary bodies. The Department of Advanced Instrumentation dedicates its research activity to the development of space instrumentation technologies for astrophysical and planetary exploration, as well as to the development of simulation chambers for planetary environments. In this last area, the Department has different infrastructures, planetary simulation chambers and vacuum technologies to provide scientific and technological support to researchers. The technological developments are the result of a multi- and transdisciplinary collaboration between the department members and the rest of the scientists of the centre.
