They discover a process of formation of molecules in interstellar space on 02-10-2014. CAB IN THE MEDIA (RNE)

They have proven that there is a type of hydrocarbons in space. They form near giant red stars at high temperatures. These molecules can be key to understanding the origin of life on Earth.

A group of scientists, led by researchers from the Center for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA) and the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid ( CSIC), has discovered a new mechanism to explain the presence of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) in space.

The researchers, who have published the results of the study in Nature, have combined astronomical observations and advanced techniques of nanotechnology. The proposed mechanism would be based on the interaction of atomic hydrogen with dust grains formed by silicon carbide that are very abundant in space.
