It is more interesting to find another kind of life than to populate Mars

The head of the Scientific Culture Unit of the Center for Astrobiology (CAB, CSIC-INTA), Luis Cuesta, said today that for scientists it is "much more interesting" to find another kind of life or "a new way of make life "on Mars that populate it with that of planet earth.

Cuesta, which participates in a new edition of the School of Astrobiology at the Menéndez Pelayo International University ( UIMP ), has described as" media "private projects that intend to send manned missions to Mars and create a base on this planet.

According to Cuesta, none of the world's space agencies have the appropriate rocket propeller to send this type of mission to Mars and even in 20 or 30 years they would not be ready to do it.

But he has also warned that these projects go a line that "fortunately" the scientific community has already abandoned long ago, that of the "t erraformación ", providing protection protocols to prevent missions contaminate with microorganisms from planet earth.

The head of the Scientific Culture Unit of the CAB has emphasized that researchers are now more interested in find new ways of life or life that are not based for example on amino acids such as terrestrial.

The School of Astrobiology of the UIMP has focused this year on the search of environments where the conditions exist suitable for life to arise or develop and in the limits for that to happen.
