The Associated Unit of the Molecular Spectroscopy Group of the University of Valladolid is inaugurated (GEM-UVA)

The Associated Unit of the Molecular Spectroscopy Group of the University of Valladolid (GEM-UVA) was created with the aim of establishing a scientific-technical collaboration in the field of Molecular Astrophysics. This unit is associated with the CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) through the Molecular Astrophysics group of the Center for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA).

The goal is to achieve, in five years, a significant advance in international level in the science and scientific exploitation of the Herschel satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA), the ALMA interferometer and the high resolution spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry instruments of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) telescopes European Southern Observatory) and the Observatories of the Canary Islands. To achieve an optimal exploitation of the data that these astrophysical instruments will provide to the international scientific community, it is necessary to achieve the necessary synergy between Astrophysicists and Chemical-Molecular Physicists and Spectroscopists. Likewise, it is fundamental to develop a series of laboratory techniques and to adapt the instrumentation available in the field of spectroscopy and molecular kinetics-dynamics, to provide specific molecular data to the physical conditions of the Interstellar and Circumstallar Medium, and of the Planetary Atmospheres .

The new instrumental development in laboratories and the theoretical developments in Astrophysics and Chemistry-Molecular Physics, is also among the objectives of this initiative, since these border techniques will be disseminated in the international scientific environment . In particular, it is intended that this team represents an axis of agglutination of scientists involved in one way or another in the chemical evolution of the Universe. The optimization of human and material resources goes through the strengthening of a series of scientific infrastructures already installed that are complementary and with which it is essential to establish synergies.

Promote the results that can be obtained in the fields of Molecular Astrophysics and Chemistry-Molecular Physics, fostering the transfer of technology, will facilitate the creation of a scientific-technical fabric around Molecular Astrophysics that represents a qualitative leap in the international position of Spain.
